Albrecht Altdorfer
Albrecht Altdorfer (1480-1538) was a German painter and printmaker of the Northern Renaissance. He is known for his innovative use of chiaroscuro, a strong contrast between light and dark, to create dramatic and realistic compositions. His works often featured landscapes with ruins, still-life arrangements, and allegorical scenes. Altdorfer's style blended realism with fantastical elements, reflecting the humanist and Protestant values of the time. He was also an accomplished printmaker.
