Alice Neel
Alice Neel (1900-1984) was an American realist and expressionist painter known for her intimate, psychologically charged portraits of family members, friends, and social outcasts. Her style blended realism with a touch of surrealism and abstract expressionism. Neel's work often explored themes of identity, mortality, and the human condition. Despite facing financial struggles and being overlooked by critics during her lifetime, Neel gained recognition in the 1970s.
