Anthony Van Dyck

Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641) was a Flemish painter who worked in the Baroque and early Rococo styles. He was born in Antwerp and trained with Peter Paul Rubens. Van Dyck's work is characterized by its grandeur, majesty, and attention to detail. He became famous for his portraits of European royalty, including Charles I of England, and his depiction of the English Civil War.
