El Greco

El Greco (1541-1614) was a Greek painter who bridged Byzantine and Renaissance art. Born Doménikos Theotokópoulos in Crete, he moved to Venice and later Rome, absorbing Italian styles while maintaining Byzantine traditions. His unique blend of realism and expressive color created iconic works like "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz" (1588).
