Robert Henri

Robert Henri (1860-1929) was an American painter and art instructor. He's known for his realistic and impressionistic depictions of everyday life, often focusing on the lives of African Americans and Native Americans. His work emphasized strong light and shadow, with bold brushstrokes. As a mentor to many artists, including George Bellows and Mahon, Henri played a significant role in shaping the Ashcan School movement, which celebrated urban life and social realism.
